Mourinho accepts that his £26m summer buy from Borussia Dortmund isn't pleased with his lack of games in England but insists the midfielder's self-imposed gag has helped put him in line for a recall.
Mourinho is now planning to play the 27-year-old Armenian against Feyenoord at some stage in the Europa League on Thursday night.
“Obviously he is not happy but he is transforming his frustration in a good way which is; close the mouth and work hard and try to adapt. He is trying,” said Mourinho.
Explaining why Mkhitaryan wasn't in the 18-man squad to play Arsenal on Saturday, Mourinho said: “I told him (before the Arsenal match) that he is going to be involved in the game against Feyenoord.
“I told him this (vs the Gunners) was not the game for you, I don't think he needs 10 or 20 minutes from the bench I think you need a good game and you need to either start or if not to come for the second half.
“He needs less pressure and better conditions for him to express his qualities.”
